The Federal Protocol Agreement clarifies, standardizes, and streamlines indigenous engagement and consultation in S’ólh Téméxw, while never compromising the protection of Stó:lō rights and title interests. Functionally, the Federal Protocol Agreement acts as a guide or rule book for engagement between Canada and the STSA. It outlines a detailed process, describes performance targets, and clarifies expectations for both parties. As the Federal Protocol was signed by the Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister, other Federal departments must agree to adhere to the engagement-consultation process set out by the Protocol.
